So, up visiting family near Trinidad, and get up there, and as usual, someone says "what the hell are we going to do, there is nothing around here." Someone mentioned we should drive up to Alamosa and go to this Mennonite (pretty sure) bakery. So, one morning we made the hour or so drive and checked it out. If you are anywhere near this place you really should make the effort and go. They have a lot of things they make themselves, and there are also items they get from other sources. I absolutely had the best pepperoni rolls of my life here. Living in Texas, a pepperoni roll down here is usually some pizza joint concoction and are always pretty terrible. I had a feeling when I saw these I was going to get real, Appalachia type pepperoni rolls. I grabbed one, and once we got back to the car I tore into it, and it was fantastic. I went back with the intent to grab ten more, but they only had one left, and that was all for the day. That response came up more than once. When they run out, they run out. I got some bacon cheese bread, also the best I've ever had. Their fried pies, people were bagging up by the dozens, and while I liked the fact that they were covered in icing, I'm not a fan of pies with a lot of jelly type filling. My older kid loves them, and obviously I'm in a minority cause people were going nuts on the things. I also grabbed some candy and some peanut butter cookies. (drool) They sell these sandbag dense glazed donuts. But, you get a free one, and free coffee, if you want when you come to shop. I had one, I was smart enough not to get anymore. They have all sorts of stuff. Place seems like a food store that, logically, serves the local Mennonite population. We saw several groups shopping while we were there. Also saw some really good looking meat that they process themselves, (I'd say butcher, but don't want to freak anyone out) and would have bought some if we hadn't brought some food with us. Anyway, it was all great stuff. If I ever go again, I'm gonna load up on those pepperoni rolls. less
Two words... Lebanon Bologna. Grew up near Pennsylvania Dutch country and this was a staple in our home. Quite the treat - worth the 500 mile round trip LOL. The baked goods were sensational too! less
100% lives up to its name! Everything is so delicious and priced so well! The cinnamon rolls are definitely my favorite thing here, but I'll definitely be back to try everything else. Service was great and bakery is super clean. less
Amazing place! Love all the goodies. Highly recommend going. The best thing I love is their bread, meats and cheese. Love to make a great sandwich. They do have a new location. 5475 E County Road 8 S monte vista co 81144. less
Quaint Amish bakery with all the goodies. Shopped here at least a dozen times; the best donuts. Fluffy, light and hot! All the bakery goods are great. We also get several frozen entrees such as lasagna and various casseroles. Highly recommend. less
Fruit fry pies are the best! Cinnamon rolls are delicious I love love love their jalapeño loaf bread. When you are in the San Luis Valley, this bakery is a must-visit in Monte Vista!!! less
There is a little Amish place south of Monte Vista, CO, called Worth the Drive Family Bakery. My 5-star review parallels their business name for 4 main reasons: 1) Their food is great! Every homemade item that we bought that we tried was delicious. For example, they make their own chocolate chip cookies which are huge, thick, and stay together well while you sink your teeth into them. 2) The service is friendly. We didn't need help, but the ladies were quickly assisting others after we walked into an empty store. It seemed to get packed in waves. When we got there, my vehicle was the only one. Then by the time we checked out, there was about 10 cars in the gravel parking lot. 3) The ambiance is clean and simple. All of the items were marked clearly. Some areas like the danishes and some breads were help yourself. 4) The prices were better than most grocery stores in the area or very competitive with discount stores. They accept cash or cards with a 3% fee. Things I recommend: + plain glazed donuts... they sell 6 dense, wonderfully large ones for $8 as of 9/2/2023. + chocolate chip cookies + fudge (although, I don't think the small packages with mini spoons was made by Worth the Drive... it was still yummy!) TIPS + They sell some refridgerated and frozen items. My significant other and I have never tried Yak. They looked to be fairly thick steaks. The huge packs of salmon looked swell too. Next time! + They are open Wednesday-Saturday. Closed Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday. less
Delicious baked goods including fried pies and the best donuts in the San Luis Valley, but what I keep going back for is the double smoked ham and bacon cheddar bread! Very homey atmosphere and excellent service. You can definitely tell this is a family business and one of the jewels of the SLV. less

Great pastries, canned goods and meats/cheeses. Service was excellent. Everyone was so helpful! The interior was clean and neat. It's hard to find a business that still offers free taste tests when you come in the door. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!! less
